Two events stood out for me yesterday. Firstly Kevin Rudd's 'stealth attack' under cover of dark, by resigning his portfolio as Foreign Affairs Minister in Washington at 1.20am without first consulting with his leader, the Prime Minister, the Honorable Julia Gillard and secondly, the fact that the Lindy Chamberlain (Azaria case) is finally drawing to a close after 32 years. Both involved 'witch hunts'. Both involved trial by media. Both a black mark on Australian history. Dirty, dirty politics and dirty reporting. Gillard and Chamberlain both declared guilty without substantial evidence, both assumed to be evil purely because of their gender. I tire of the obvious misogyny evident in these events. I tire of a media industry that would rather be sensational than get it right. I tire of politicians behaving like children - I thought it was only one year olds who spat the dummy! If Kevin Rudd felt so responsible for his duties in Washington, London and Tunisia couldn't he have fulfilled his duties and resigned when he was due to return to Australia. My opinion is that his actions show a complete lack of responsibility! See Rudd's resignation speech here. I can only say I look forward to both these issues being resolved so
that we can maintain some sense of dignity for our country.
