FOURTH BIRTHDAY

ANYTHING BUT HUMAN IS CELEBRATING ITS FOURTH BIRTHDAY - I INITIATED IT ON AUGUST 7, 2009.

Over 1,100 blog posts (that's nearly one per day), numerous comments, hundred of photographs and we're still here. We would like to thank our readers, for without them we would be speaking into the virtual void of cyberspace.

In the first year we had a total of 10,000 page views, then in 2011 it jumped to 50,000 views and in 2012 reached 100,000. Like any toddler the blog has taken on a life of its own and the blog readership has grown exponentially with the latest figures being 160,000. We've basically grown by 40, 50 + 60,000 viewers per year and have over 5,000 page views per month. We are no longer crawling but walking and every day we gather greater readership.

By way of celebration as well as commentary on world events especially ubiquitous surveillance, which is like God (according to some) and viruses, everywhere but nowhere,  I would like you to consider this artwork called The Control Room, Civil Defence Headquarters by William Roberts painted in 1942. I re-photographed it from the old and worn out cover of George Orwell's dystopian novel 1984 published by Penguin in 1954. Wish us a Happy Birthday in the comments box if you like, or ponder on Robert's image, not so dated, still relevant today; the notion of a perfectly blissful social machine operating behind a monstrous state apparatus. Doublethink means the power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one's mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them (p.214).
