On this very cold Saturday, my day is pretty well mapped out. I'll be reading and painting & thinking and sitting, and if I can stand the cold outside I'll take a short walk. One week prior to the official start of Winter and the heater is already on in my lounge room and another small one on in the kitchen where I paint. The magpies and a few other species of birds have already eaten most of the bread I put out at around 6.30 am - they're happy & singing now, somewhere in the distance. I love this time of the day - the quiet, the half light, gentle whir of the heater fan, my cave is surrounded by dried leaves, which I'll sweep up when the day becomes a little warmer. I feel thoroughly cocooned - warm clothes & a not so silent silence pervades.
