Happiness

This is one of the glorious, long stemmed roses growing in the garden outside my kitchen window. It has a distinct odor of Turkish Delight! I'm so lucky to be living amongst such beauty, and to think I lived for so many years without a garden to look at. I was watching an ABC program last night about a group of psychologists who are working with eight volunteers from Sydney who scored lower on the happiness test than the general population who score around 70 out of 100. 1. The thought of giving up my email addy to yet another crew of spammers made me unhappy straightaway :D

  2. I figured, that given it was the ABC, giving them my email would be OK. Also, they ask for a username, rather than your real name so they can put results on the map. I personally think that happiness is fleeting and if I did the test in a few days it may change considerably.

  3. The Australian Privacy Commissioner says " An organisation must not collect personal information unless the information is necessary for one or more of its functions or activities"

Clearly, watching a television program or participating in an anonymous survey does not necessitate the collection of personal data.

The ABC says "Information is collected from you primarily to make it easier and more rewarding for you to use our services."

Clearly, the provision of personal information does not increase either the enjoyment of a television program or provide any rewards for participation in an anonymous survey.
