Beverley's Fashions

Thanks must go to the willing and very capable staff at the Hawthorn City Library who consulted the Sands and McDougall Street Directory (1956) for me this morning. They found out that the numbering system had changed over the past half century and my address listed as rear of 187 Glenferrie Road, Hawthorn, was, as my mother had said, Beverley's Fashions, rented to Reginald Clarke, who I think was my uncle. The site, on the corner of Wakefield Street and Glenferrie Road is now occupied by McDonalds, so I went behind it into the little lane way and found the old gate entrance (in photograph) above. A kind staff member allowed me to go behind the gate to take some more photos. The abode, which adjoins the shop is small, long and narrow, with a door and two small windows either side of it. I don't think that the building has changed and the old gate certainly looks like its been there a long time. I realise now that many of my memories have been meshed together. Events and locations aren't necessarily remembered accurately ~
