This is one of the baby Magpie's in the backyard. Believe it or not, it's nearly the same size as its parents. Its only a few weeks old, has mastered flight, but still cannot feed itself. I've soaked some bread in warm water and thrown small pieces to its parent, who dutifully feeds its young. It's cold outside, no wonder little maggie is screeching for food. A lot of people don't like Magpies, but I do. Apparently they can live to 30 years, can mimic the sounds of about 35 other bird species and can even make dog and human sounds if they live in close proximity.
