If all the troubles...

Two different adages came to mind this morning. The first, goes something like this:
If all the troubles of the world were placed in a huge pile for each individual to take an equal share, each of us would be happier just to take our own. The other is: There but for the grace of god go I. I was thinking this in the context of editing the review I did of The Waiting City and considering my own life and health issues and the plight of others. On reflection, although I don't like the unpleasant things that happen to my body, I'm eternally grateful that I am not as sick as others. I'm not a religious person, but applaud the notion of grace as a state of being protected. Likewise, I like the concept of luck ~ the chance happening of fortunate or unfortunate events. I think we underestimate the notion of luck, I really do think it plays a major part in all of our lives. And it is here that I think that the idea of grace and good luck intersect, for, to be truly blessed one must have both simultaneously.
