Graffiti art

Digitally manipulated image of graffiti artist and artwork, Union Lane. Julie Clarke (2010)

The graffiti art on the walls of either side of Union Lane (between Bourke and Little Collins Street, Melbourne) attracting Melbournians and overseas visitors for almost a year, has recently been painted over and in the past few days new graffiti artists have been creating exciting artworks. The fumes from the spray cans was a little over-powering for me this afternoon, however I managed to take a photo of one of the artists, having a cigarette break to admire his work, as well as a photograph of his partly finished artwork, depicting Aboriginal children. I cheated a little bit here, I used Photoshop to overlay the photo of him over that of his artwork (sorry, I haven't done a very good job of it, but you get the idea). If you are in Melbourne you should take a look at these walls ~ although I liked the grunge urban ~cartooning style of the previous graffiti, these new works have an unparalleled sophistication, which I really enjoy.
