I am alone and walking about five metres from the edge of a cliff. Trees growing near the precipice are bearing giant pieces of fruit and vegetables. I attempt to dislodge one when I consider for a moment why no-one else has taken them. I then see a vast waste-land below, which travels far into the distance. Someone passes by and mumbles something about pesticides and detergent. Perhaps the growing produce has been poisoned and like-wise the barren ground? I will not be partaking of the fruit. It is then that I see a golden city spread out like sun-rise or haze across the sky ~ it looks like a mirage, it's buildings, although well lit are just soft muted colors that disappear into high clouds. I am confused by what I see - a vast empty waste-land juxtaposed against such opulence and beauty. I feel as though I have entered a space that I have not encountered, but all the same, recognise. This is the dream I had before I woke this morning. I'm thinking that it represents two distinct states of mind and the emptiness that must be traversed in order to arrive at a place of illumination. I was considering this and how I might travel across that boundless space when I woke up. Isn't it interesting how we awake just before dream resolution?
