Not much to report on this beautiful sunny Melbourne day, except that last night my lovely son Erin came to visit and brought with him a gift from his girlfriend Laura. It was a First Edition copy of Woman's Own Cook Book published by George Newnes Ltd., London in 1964. I'd been lamenting the fact that I'd inadvertently disposed of my Women's Weekly Cookbook ( circa 1979) during a Spring clean a few years back and that I no longer had the tried and true recipes that I'd made when Erin was a child, particularly one for Lemon Meringue Pie. This afternoon I stayed home nursing a sore neck because I'd carried too much shopping home from the Victoria Market, but this gave me the opportunity to look through the book, which has some interesting color plates of prepared food. I love that it includes recipes for Passionfruit Pavlova and Lamingtons in the Australian section but was intrigued that, rather than providing a recipe for Lemon Meringue Pie it has one for Chocolate Meringue Pie - perhaps I can just substitute lemons for chocolate! Can life be that simple?
