A YES result in the forthcoming referendum will not result in gains by Indigenous Australians in remote areas, but will line the pockets of academics already well funded by research grants and positions of power and the majority of mixed race city aboriginal and Torres Straight islanders.
I will be voting NO for numerous complex and nuanced reasons, including the fact that this referendum will further divide Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.
We should be promoting the concept that we are all Australians. We are all part of the human race.
