Total Eclipse of the Moon over Hawthorn East: 4.40 am 16 June 2011
It's 4.40 am and I've been outside twice since 3.45 am when I woke up for no particular reason and then discovered that my awakening was probably due to the fact that there is an impending total eclipse of the moon. The Earth's shadow began to cover the top edge from around 4.23 am, so I went out and took a photo. This one, taken in the sky above Hawthorn East on a very chilly morning of 6 degrees and mist on the grass, shows just the beginning of the eclipse, which will occur for around 100 minutes.
