Get low, or, getting down to business

I really enjoyed Get Low (Aaron Schneider, 2009). Maybe it was the stunning misty bushland scenes, the haunting music, or the tiny cottage, as the only thing you could see for miles around in the wooded forest. Perhaps it was the fact that I related to Felix Bush (Robert Douvall), a recluse who lives in those quiet woods, or that it seems thoroughly romantic to be so old and be still holding on to the thoughts and memories of one true love. Whatever it was, this film was intelligent, engaging and deep. It was based on a true story and is primarily about how the protagonist goes about organizing his own funeral, whilst he's still alive, supposedly so that he can hear stories that others may tell about him. But as the film progresses we begin to understand that this is not the case and in fact Felix has a secret that he cannot tell and wants someone else to articulate for him. Douvall is brilliant as the crusty, aging Felix and I wouldn't be surprised if he picked up some form of accolade for a performance that was for me so utterly memorable.
