There was an outage on Blogger for most of yesterday (Friday 13th) whilst they were undertaking essential maintenance, so I couldn't make a post and when I entered my blog this morning I noticed that Thursday's blog post has disappeared! Apparently missing posts will reappear once they have sorted out a few issues. Steve has vowed to make a post over the weekend, so readers can look forward to that. I've not a lot to report, except like many I was caught in yesterdays downpour and the temperature, which was a tiny 12 degrees plummeted even lower before I got home from Uni. When I turned on the television M. rabbott was talking about 'class warfare' and opposing government proposals just for the sake of it. At I write this it's only 7 degrees and there's heavy rain falling. Magpies call to each other in the trees, it is indeed a bleak day. I notice the media is flooded with reasons for why bin Laden was killed, but very little has been said about the root cause of extremism in Afghanistan, which I believe is poverty, lack of opportunities for its people and the perception that the US is waging war on them. Wouldn't you think that with all the great minds in the world that someone would come up with a think tank to provide strategies against poverty? One third of all our food produced is wasted and if you figure in the water, land and energy use that's a lot of good resources discarded that might instead be put into programs to support those who cannot produce enough to feed themselves. Of course, it's difficult to think about others who are struggling when we may be struggling ourselves. The sudden downpour at 8.28 am preceded a burst of yellow sunlight, which is now flooding my room. I get too restless to stay indoors so I guess I'll rug up and go out before the predicted afternoon hailstorm. Here's a photo of the Camellia's growing outside my kitchen window, a bit wet, but beautiful all the same.
