Interested always in the diversity of style and expression displayed by the people of Melbourne, I took several photos of teenagers waiting on the steps of Flinders Street Station yesterday afternoon. I took some group shots, but have posted these photos because the two young women looked extremely interesting in their choice of clothing. I spoke briefly to the girl in the first picture who said she was known as the 'Top Hat Girl' ~ I thought her style rather Goth/Cabaret or New Romantic, although I'm sure that she'd have another name for it. Later, having coffee in Degreaves Street, I got into a conversation with two, fresh faced year eleven female students who were debating the pros and cons of using hallucinogenic drugs, such as 'srooms' (magic mushrooms). Their rationale for undertaking such experimentation was that it would afford them a different perspective. Although I explained to them that there were numerous other, less dangerous ways of achieving this state of being, they were adamant that this was the only way to achieve a spiritual experience. Oh well! As they say 'You can't put an old head on young shoulders'!
