Reflections

Thanks for reading my blog ~ I thought you might be interested in some of the statistics. I've had 5,900 hits over the past 5 months and apart from the 2,024 hits on the main page, here are the totals for the top ten sites: Ron Muek Exhibition 289, Experimenta Utopia 185, Hailstorm Melbourne 117, review of Murray McKeich Zombie 109, list of my writings on the posthuman 89, Awkward Toy - Stelarc's Third Hand 89, Brecon Walsh photos of Stelarc 79, my essay on Visual Poetry & Mail Art 76 and Frank'scunt 71. It appears that my exhibition reviews have won hands down.
I've been busy of late, tutoring and catching up with some academic reading and slowed down a little by Melbourne's colder weather, which exacerbates my osteo-arthritis symptoms, but I'll certainly try to visit some exhibitions/films or performances and tell you what I think. I'm hoping to attend Neo - Ruins an exhibition and talk by the Japanese artist, Hisaharu Motoda at the VCA next week and will also try and get a ticket (if they are not yet sold out) to Trans-Mute a Butoh performance by Yumi Umiumare which is being staged at the University of Melbourne Union theatre. I haven't seen a Butoh performance since the one I saw at La Mamma Theatre about 12 years ago - so really looking forward to this.
My brief visit to the beach a couple of days ago enabled me to think again about the vastness of the sea ~ I looked outwards and saw a great expanse, I looked inward and found the same. Like Doctor Who's Tardis that hides its limitless internal dimensions, our own external body conceals internal potential, extensive capacity and spatiality. Thinking now, does Buddhist insight and science fiction reference really work ~ anyway the two things came together in my mind ~ it's Sunday morning - no religion here, only philosophy ~ my new Slavoj Zizek book Living in the End Times awaits my attention!
