Body Works #1

Body Works #1. Photograph: Julie Clarke 20.03.2010

I'd be really interested in your comments, reactions or ideas about this photograph I took yesterday. For obvious reasons I don't want to tell you what it is because I don't want the content to override its aesthetic affect. The only modifications I made to the original was to change it from color to black and white and re-size it. So, if you have a couple of minutes perhaps you wouldn't mind giving me some feedback. Being totally articulate is not the aim here, I'm just looking for first impressions, feelings, anything that you would like to write. All comments (unless they contain profanity) will be published.

  1. The image brings to mind that moment after sex when lovers slowly and reluctantly peel their sticky bodies apart from one another.
It also reminds my of a type of native fungi, the kind that grow in petal-like arrangements on fallen logs, which perhaps share a similar intimacy, then separation.

  2. sideways yoni lips ..its amazing when the female vagina is photographed how unusual/sensual the form becomes. I did a show called PFI (pleasing female imagery) 5-7 ft sculptures interpreted close up shots of my friends photos of their vagina's/labia'/shot from behind/ bindi-ed /tattooed ect. No one knew what they were first showing. Was a lot of fun

  3. Wow! I'm impressed at these two responses, however, I'll wait until I (hopefully) get a few more comments before I launch into what the actual image is. Glad that you both find it sensual.

  4. A slight curl of the top feature that gives the image motion gives the impression of lips parting to permit a glimpse of tongue-tip.

  5. Yes, I can see that it might look like lips Steve. Other people's perceptions are so fascinating. I'll tell you all in a couple of days what's actually in the photo.

  6. This photograph is of my legs in sunlight. If you change the photograph so that it is viewed vertically you will see that it is of my legs knee down - I know it looks strange and that's how the sunlight contoured them.
