Hungry Beast...
I've been awake and up since 3 am this morning, it's still only 3.30 am. I had a strange dream about ferrets and cats playing in an enclosure - aren't they natural enemies? Much to my horror Lyndal Jones (artist) was taking photographs of me as I was trying to make my way through a labyrinth. Anyway I'm up, but I won't last long because just making toast and coffee has made me tired. But now that I'm here on my blog, I should say that I found the report on 'Hungry Beast' ABC1 about women undergoing Labiaplasty (surgical modification of labia minora) rather disturbing. Isn't it enough that women are under pressure to undergo cosmetic surgery (liposuction, rhinoplasty, botox, breast augmentation, face-lifts) to conform to a particular body type; do they now need to conform to Photoshop manipulated images of female genitalia reproduced in life-style or porn magazines, which homogenize labia majora so that labia minora do not hang down or protrude? What is this obsession our society has about clones - perfect copies, reproduced over and over again? Might we not be applauding our differences and imperfections? Well, on that note I'm back to bed and hopefully to sleep! I hope that I don't dream about body mutilation.
