Close ups...

Occasionally I enjoy looking at photographs I've taken and zooming in on what I consider interesting aspects - it can become obsessive and reminds me always of two films: Blow Up (Antonioni, 1966) and Blade Runner (Ridley Scott, 1982) although in both those films the protagonist was being forensic, attempting to find clues to a mystery. Perhaps I am also attempting to reveal something.  The following photographs are small parts of larger ones that I took on Melbourne Cup Day.

Melbourne Cup Day 2013

Melbourne Cup Day I went into the National Gallery of Victoria early (10am door opening time) to see Edward Steichen & Art Deco Fashion, which comprises 200 B & W photographs and more than 30 glorious garments made by various fashion houses around the world during the Art Deco period. It was an absolute delight. On my way to the gallery I took a few photographs of the Melbourne Cup fashion scene around Flinders Street and Federation Square and a few photographs of an unfortunate individual who is the other face of such a glamorous day. Sometimes some of us forget that in this 'lucky country' some are not as lucky.
