Abandoned

Remember this? Swanston Street, Melbourne at 10.50 am on this day in 2020. During Stage 4 lockdown we were permitted to take a walk outside. I was there, but I could see no one else. Melbourne was like a ghost town not yet overtaken by the natural progression of decay or unfettered nature, although there appeared to be more bird sounds, usually drowned out by city trams, traffic and human interaction.

Strangely enough yesterday I began reading 'Islands of Abandonment: Life in the Post-human Landscape'. Cal Flyn, William Collins, London, 2021
