On the 23 October 1976 when I was three months pregnant with my one and only son, Dave and I travelled by train to Kilmore, Victoria so that we could witness the total eclypse of the sun. To commemorate the occasion we sent a postcard to ourselves and after all these years I still have it. I can still remember day turning to night. At approximately 4.30 all the birds disappeared into the trees and there was a slight wind and eerie silence. Note: it was Dave who drew himself with moon glasses and I drew the celestial objects with the note 'this is not my bottom'. There is a certain amount of humor evident. I've made this blog post because it was a significant event and because there will be a total solar eclypse in the USA tomorrow.
