This
afternoon I saw The place beyond the pines (Derek Cianfrance, 2013). An extremely intellectual
& thought provoking film about how men become heroes, notions of masculinity, fatherhood,
responsibility, the different sides of corruption of both the police and criminals. It is compelling, slightly
unnerving & disquieting film that is promoted as a riveting crime drama, however it is much more than that. The acting is impeccable and it has a convincing and
believable narrative that acutely reveals how one event in a person's life and their response to it can change their life and the lives of future generations. This is an excellent film that raises questions about the expectations that men place upon themselves in our society, male rights of passage and their struggle with rage. I highly recommend it.
