A great opportunity currently exists for individuals who are refugees, asylum seekers, Indigenous Australians or indeed, from any marginalized group to tell their story. This is being made possible through Hive Television.
Hive Television is a project initiated
by The Hive Creative Centre Inc, which is sponsored by the Fellowship of
Australian Writers (FAW) and the Federal Attorney General's Building Community
Resilience Program.
The project will develop the skills of
marginalized people in cross-cultural media initiatives and link traditional
and Internet social media to raise awareness of community issues such as
violence, extremism, religious intolerance and the persecution of minority
groups. The project aims to build and reinforce resilience to messages
of intolerance and violent extremism and promote inclusive and safe Australian
communities.
They are currently calling for film
makers and story tellers from people of diverse
cultural backgrounds who have either made a feature, documentary or short film
that has not yet been screened, with the view of offering audience feedback, film
exposure and assistance for future projects. Hive Television can assist with infrastructure, equipment and experience. They are also hoping to assist those new to Australia who wish to express their feelings through creative writing.
